Today First Derm placed second and won $5,000 for mobile innovation in the Mobileys! With the support of our fans we already won the People’s Choice award (and $2,500) prize in October, so we are thrilled to also have won recognition from the judges. As a winner of the competition our CEO, Dr. Börve, will travel to Washington DC to meet with key policy makers in mobile technology. Considering all of the innovation in mobile health, specifically with telemedicine, wearables, and patient engagement solutions, we are hopeful that lawmakers in the capital will embrace, not hinder the emerging field. Together, these solutions not only lead to better patient outcomes, but dramatic cost savings across all aspects of a healthcare system.
The Mobileys is a competition that recognizes the mobile apps of the year that can make the biggest positive impact; in their words, they “honor entrepreneurs who inspire and make a difference through mobile innovation.”
Apart from winning the Mobileys, our team is happy to have reached some big milestones since launching this January. Our app has been used in 127 countries. We have become more accessible than ever, supporting iOS, Android, the web, 6 languages, and bitcoin payments. In our first year of operation, First Derm has already saved two lives by detecting early stage melanomas after users submitted pictures of their skin lesions.
We want to stress that we do not replace a face-to-face visit with a dermatologist. Our service fills the gap between an doing internet search for health information and going to a doctor in person. By giving personalized health info quickly through a smartphone, our service sends users to the right level of care, which saves time, money and sometimes lives.
